SUNSHINE CONCESSION STAND TEAM NEEDS YOU
We will be running a concession stand at the JQH Arena for concerts/events and basketball
along with a stand at the Plaster Stadium on the MSU campus.
Why are we doing this? To raise money that is used to fund the teacher
grants, class field trips and address needs within the school. Four years ago, we made a commitment to not conduct
any fundraising which resulted in our kids selling items to family, friends and neighbors. With support from various
Sunshine parents, teachers and staff, this was accomplished.
Over the past couple of years, the funds raised have allowed the PTA to replace all
the old wooden chairs with new plastic throughout the entire school. We have also purchased choir microphones for the
stage, DJ Lights for schoool dances, purchased and had installed benches in the courtyard and replaced a cordless
microphone. The focus of the new year is to be determined soon. However, to ensure teacher grants and field trips are
funded, we need your help.
Look over the list of coming events, check your calendar and then sign up. We serve
drinks and snacks during the various events. We wear white t-shirts, black pants and tennis shoes.

Currently located behind the Bailey School at 501 W. Central, the PTA Clothing Bank serves the needs of
approximately 1,300 students each school year. All SPS students who qualify for the National Free and Reduced-Price
Lunch Program are eligible to shop at the PTA Clothing Bank. Eligible families may shop up to three times per year and
will receive new socks and underwear on the first visit (subject to availability). A voucher from the school office
or nurse is required on the first visit.
As the number of students who qualify for the National Free and Reduced-Price Lunch program continues to grow, the demands
for the services at the PTA Clothing Bank grow as well. PTA continues to rely on help from the community to assist
with clothing drives for gently-used clothing, donations of new socks and underwear and monetary support. Clothing
donations may be dropped off at the Clothing bank during operating hours or may be left at the nearest school. Monetary
donations should be made payable to Springfield Council of PTAs (a 501c3) and mailed to the treasurer. Volunteers are
welcomed and appreciated to assist shoppers and to help with the sorting and hanging of the clothing.
Please note that the PTA Clothing Bank is open Wednesdays, from 9:00am - 3:30pm, when school is in session,
except the first Wednesday of each month (to allow PTA members to attend the
monthly Council meeting) for both shoppers and volunteers. The PTA Clothing Bank will be closed the months of December
and May. If school dismisses early on a Wednesday, the PTA Clothing Bank closes at noon.
Each PTA unit is assigned up to 3 days per school year to help organize volunteers from their school. If you
need to reschedule your school’s assigned day, please call the PTA Clothing Bank Chair.

IT'S IN YOUR HANDS
A comprehensive Hand Washing Campaign to lower the number of student and staff absences during the
coming winter months.
This campaign will require active participation from all the school stakeholders. So what can you,
our parents do? Be sure to emphasize proper hand washing upon returning from school, after using the bathroom and before meals.
Kids don't always listen when you tell them to
wash their hands before eating, but it's a message worth repeating. Hand washing is by far the best way to prevent germs from
spreading and to keep your kids from getting sick.
Washing Hands
Correctly
Here's how to scrub those germs away. Demonstrate this routine to your kids —
or better yet, wash your hands together often so they learn how important this good habit is:
1.
Wash your hands
in warm water. Make sure the water isn't too hot for little hands.
2.
Use soap and
lather up for about 10 to 15 seconds (antibacterial soap isn't necessary — any soap will do). Make sure you get in between
the fingers and under the nails where uninvited germs like to hang out. And don't forget the wrists!
3.
Rinse and dry
well with a clean towel.
4.
To minimize the germs passed
around your family, make frequent hand washing a rule for everyone, especially:
- before eating and cooking
- after using the bathroom
- after cleaning around the house
- after touching animals, including family pets
- before and after visiting or taking care of any sick friends or relatives
- after blowing one's nose, coughing, or sneezing
- after being outside (playing, gardening, walking the dog, etc.)
Don't underestimate the power of hand washing! The few seconds you spend at the sink could
save you trips to the doctor's office
